Flowers On Da Pernt

A newsletter by harkins, the florist

A Blast From the Past - Bunny's Mother's Day Cartoon 1988!

We know we had promised only one newsletter during this crazy, holiday filled month, but we wanted to let you know about our specials for Mother's Day this year, and some of the drama that has been going on in the background of the floral industry.

Mother Nature is flexing her muscles all over the globe, and this time, it's Colombia and Ecuador that are taking the brunt of it, in the way of massive rains (Colombia) and unseasonably cold temperatures (Ecuador).

Both Colombia and Ecuador are major players in the floral world, supplying the majority of the imported cut flowers that are used in this country every day. One of our supplier's representatives has sent pictures of the devastation in Colombia, below are a couple of them. These show the farms underwater, and the lengths some of these farmers will go to get our product to us for this holiday.

This is a major road in Bogota, that farmers use to get their product out to us, that was flooded last week.

One of the chrysanthemum farms, under water. Many farms won't recover from this, the crops will need to be completely replanted. Harvest will take quite while.

These enterprising farmers know that where there is a will, there is a way.

We bring these pictures to you, so you may understand if we don't have a particular color of rose, daisy, or alstroemeria. Please be patient with us, as we try to sort through the shortages, and bring you the best quality and selection available to us.

Please take a look at our Mother's Day page from the web site. It can be found here: http://www.harkinsneworleans.com/Mothers%20Day%202011.htm and please let us use some of our own discretion as to flower type or color substitutions.

Thanks so much,

All of us at harkins, the florist
